Croda Advisory: Item code changes due to RSPO

ANNOUNCEMENT DATE:  JULY 15, 2016

Dear Customer,

Responsibly addressing the social and environmental issues associated with Palm Oil (PO) and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) is a priority for us at Croda. In 2012 we released our first Certified Sustainable Palm-based ingredients and since then have been working closely with our suppliers and the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm (RSPO) to further develop our supply chain.

Now with eleven of our global manufacturing sites – which produce 99% of our palm derived volumes – certified to handle Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) materials via Mass Balance, we are pleased to inform you that we will only use certified sustainable palm oil or palm kernel oil in the manufacture of the following ingredients (see attached list).

The audit protocols to achieve sustainable palm (SP) certification via the mass balance (MBAL) process are demanding and detailed; as they should be. In order to demonstrate full auditable traceability the ingredients listed will have new codes as shown in the examples immediately below.

Sustainable palm origin is indicated by ‘SP’ and the approved supporting methodology (Mass balance) by ‘MBAL’.

Examples of the format of the tradename are below. The full list of the products that you buy will be available upon request.

Old Product Trade Name
CRODACOL CS90-PA-(RB)

New Product Trade Name

SP CRODACOL CS90 MBALPA-(RB)

INCI Name
Cetearyl alcohol

Final certification is given according to RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard and the Croda Certificate number will appear on Certificates of Analysis.

No change to Raw Materials
The raw materials used to make these products have not changed. The Sustainable Palm grade simply guarantees that the Palm-based raw materials used throughout the supply chain are sourced sustainably via Mass Balance, and that Croda is appropriately audited.

No change to Manufacturing Process
No change to Analytical Specification

Implementation Timescales
The nomenclature changes above will be quickly introduced into the Croda supply chain during Q3/Q4 2016.
Please note that once current non-certified stock is exhausted we will be supplying product with the new naming convention thereafter listed in the attachment. At this stage the non-certified versions of our products will cease to be available.

Please update your systems noting the change in product name. Unless we hear from you otherwise we will change over to supplying the new MBAL codes once stocks of the existing grades are exhausted. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

Subject to the continued development of the supply chains Croda has a programme in place for further conversions to enable us to only supply RSPO certified palm oil finished products by the end of 2017.

Please expect further communications from Croda as this exciting project develops and more of your Palm-based grades become sustainably certified.
